What is this Module all about?
This module introduces the student to the rich tradition of theological reflection on the central figure of Christian belief: Jesus Christ. It explores traditional and contemporary approaches to both the nature of Christ's person, and his significance for human salvation.
The class is taught at a mixed University Level One and Two. It is recommended that students have done TM104 Introduction to the Christian Tradition or some similar introduction to Doctrine. The subject is studied in a broadly academic environment acknowledging the various methods of modern scholarship but with a view to understanding how this greater knowledge can affect our own Christian practice.

You may find the following web sites helpful when studying The Person and Work of Christ. Material on the net has no quality control making tutors very wary - and rightly so! Nevertheless there is a growing amount of first class academic work on line particularly coming from Religious Studies Departments of good Universities. Treat with care and you'll find it very useful for assignments.
The Internet is not 100% reliable and documents move, disappear and change their names. If you find a link does not work, try again in an hour, a day, or a week. But do feel free to email us to report a link doesn't work. Don't forget to tell us the name of the link!

Salvation through Christ
- Universal Salvation Net
- A developing site intended to encourage and facilitate informed discussion between orthodox Christians on the contentious matter of universalism. The question at issue is this: will God one day reconcile all people to himself through Christ? It aims to make available scholarly material from orthodox Christian thinkers both against and in favour of universal salvation and to provide a forum for discussion. A very useful site particularly if it develops.
- The Paul Page
- Dedicated to the New Perpective on Paul ie the view that Judaism is not a religion of self-righteousness whereby humankind seeks to merit salvation before God. So that Paul's argument with the Judaizers was not about Christian grace versus Jewish legalism. His argument was rather about the status of Gentiles in the church. Paul's doctrine of justification, therefore, had far more to do with Jewish-Gentile issues than with questions of the individual's status before God.
- Lutheran-Catholic Declaration on Justification
- Burying the hatchet of the Reformation, this is a joint Roman Catholic and Lutheran statement on justification.
