Each year of training students undertake a placement: this is an extended project, which involves both personal encounter and theological reflection.
Placements have changed in the new programme therefore please check which set of placements will be part of your training. Your learning agreement will specify the titles and numbers of your placements.
Placements
These are the placements for the Certificate and Diploma in Christian Theology and Ministry. The Placements are specifically designed for the different needs of our ministerial students and so are only open to students on ministry tracks. Placements are a compulsory part of the ministry training and always a worthwhile event.
Level One Placements
-
This placement is for Ordinands (including OLMs) and Methodist Foundation Students only.
This placement is carried out throughout the year and involves theologically reflecting on a number of areas of your home church. The elements of the placement are related to four of the first year weekends. See especially the following pages which are more up to date:
-
This Placement is for Methodist Foundation Students only.
This placement places the student in a church in a different circuit and gives them the opportunity to observe various types of ministry and try different ministerial roles to help them discern their own vocational calling.
-
This Placement is for Reader in Training Students only.
Students are sent for about eight weeks to a church which is different from their own. They undertake a variety of Reader tasks and observe the ministry of others

Level Two Placements
-
This placement is for Ordinands (including OLMs) only.
This placement usually in the Autumn Term of the second year involves 8 weeks in a church significantly fdifferent from your own. Students are expected to carry out a range of ministerial activities and reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses and future ministry.
-
This Placement is for ordinands (including OLMS) only.
This placement usually carried out in the third year involves an experience of an unfamiliar and uncomfortable environment enabling you to reflect on your own theology of work and leisure and consider how God is present and understood in the world.
-

Old Placements
These are the placements for the old Diploma in Applied Theology and will be relevant to all those who started prior to September 2003. Each placement itself is related to two of the residential weekends in each year.
Year One: P1 Home Church Investigation
This involves taking a step back from the church in which a student worships, and asking searching questions about its models of mission and ministry.
Year Two: P2 Social Placement
This placement takes students into a secular environment with which they are unfamiliar, in order to test out their personal preconceptions and theological assumptions
-
Students are sent for about six weeks to a church which is as different as possible from their own. They undertake a variety of ministerial tasks and observe the ministry of others
Unfortunately the Pages are primarily placeholders as I didn't get very far in putting these up on the web. However the module descriptions are available.
