FoundationTraining

Methodist Foundation Training

Foundation Training was introduced into the Methodist Church in 1999 as a means of exploring Christian service for those in the Methodist Church. Through a one-year full-time course or a two-year part-time course, Methodists have an opportunity to explore and discern, with others, their calling and vocation. This vocation may be to being a Christian witness in a secular workplace, or some form of church work in the community or the diaconal or presbyterial ministry. For those interested in ordination, Foundation Training is now a prerequisite.

If you are a current Foundation Student with WEMTC then have a look at the Foundation Students Home Page for information of particular relevance to you.

Foundation Studies with WEMTC

The first year of training involves introductory courses that build on Local Preacher training. As well there are monthly vocational meetings to explore the many opportunities for service and types of callings within the church and workplace. A placement in another church or circuit provides opportunities to try out some of ministerial activities. These studies are deepened in the second year with further modules including a module on Methodism and a Home Church Reflection.

Besides evening modules there are also

Some classes are held just for the Methodist Foundation group but many take place within the wider WEMTC community which allows Foundation students to mix with an ecumenical group of students training for a variety of ministries.

The course is validated by the University of Gloucestershire and succesful completion results in the award of a Certificate in Christian Ministry and Theology.

The following modules make up the Certificate earned by Foundations students. Follow the links for more detailed decriptions.

Where and when do classes take place?

The specific Vocational Discernment and Foundation modules are currently based at our Bristol Centre at a mutually convenient time or at a more appropriate venue depending on student's location. The combined modules are offered in three locations:
